21 Things to Savor About the Fall Season
I admit, Fall has not been my favorite time of year. It's the end of summer and daylight savings time will end soon. I love when it stays light later because I am more motivated and the days seem longer.
I want to put on my pajamas and veg on the sofa when I get home from work and it's already dark. It isn't motivating at all.
My dad was in the Air Force from before I was born until I was 16. We moved about every three years and lived in different parts of the country. We even lived on Guam for two years. We went from Guam to North Dakota, so I am no stranger to a change of climate!
So, I am speaking from experience when I say that there are definite benefits to having four seasons. Sometimes I miss it.
Writing this post made me wonder if the reason I haven't cared for the Fall season is because there is not much of a change in the weather here in Houston. Change is healthy and that includes the change of seasons. It doesn't really cool down in south Texas until mid October, and even then, we still have hot days.
However, I decided to look at the benefits of the Fall season. Just because we might live in an area that doesn't have what is considered traditional Fall weather doesn't mean it can't be an enjoyable season.
I did some brainstorming and made a list of 21 reasons to love the Fall season. There are so many reasons, but I kept the list to 21.
I plan to focus on this list and make the most of the Fall season starting now!
21 Things to Savor About the Fall Season
Snuggle up on the sofa with a good book
Soft, cozy blankets and throws
Cozy pajamas and slippers
Crockpot meals - soups, stews, roast - comfort food
Beautiful colors
Boots - trendy and rain boots
Temperature cools down - not until later in south Texas, but we get a few cooler days
Fall home decor - the colors and cozy feel. It feels good to change things up!
Fall festivals
You can open the windows for fresh air (on the cooler days)
Pumpkins everywhere
Fall candle scents - pumpkin, apple, cinnamon and nutmeg
Fall wild flowers - sunflowers
Lazy days on the sofa
Fewer mosquitoes when it cools down
You can take a weekday off and enjoy less crowds since the family vacations are over
Great time for hobbies
Fall is a good time to some projects around the house
It's a great time to clean the closet and get rid of Spring and Summer clothes you don't need or want to wear next year.
Halloween - the fun decor, costumes, and don't forge the candy!
Thanksgiving! Thanksgiving food is my favorite of all and it is a good time to focus on gratitude.
I would like to take a trip to somewhere like Vermont one year to see the the leaves after they change color. They are so beautiful with the mix of red, orange, and yellow.
It would also be fun to be able to wear soft comfy sweaters while driving through the country seeing the beautiful Fall landscape.
And the boots. We might sometimes wear boots in south Texas in the Fall, but they can get hot. lol But it's fun to change up the wardrobe, even if just a bit.
I am already feeling better about Fall! I will spend some lazy days in comfy clothes watching movies and classic TV shows (I Love Lucy and The Golden Girls come to mind!), even if it's too hot to snuggle up under a soft, plush throw. :)
I hope this list helps if you also struggle with summer coming to a close. Let's focus on the positives and enjoy what this wonderful season has to offer!
Thanks for being here!
Melanie
